Meet Dr. Calleja
Dr. Sergio Calleja Blanco is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Double DDS and Fellowship trained in Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. He grew up between Santiago, Chile, and the Northern Chilean Patagonia. He received his undergraduate degree and first Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Universidad Mayor in Chile. He actively founded and managed multiple surgical healthcare volunteering programs for the Chilean Patagonia with isolated and underserved populations. This made him qualify for a Master’s in Public Health scholarship, a degree that he completed at the same institution. He later practiced dentistry for 7 years, focused on dental surgery, and underwent extensive dental implant training in Barcelona, Spain.
Dr. Calleja Blanco went on to receive his second DDS degree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He continued to participate in mission trips to Kenya and Guatemala, created an educational program to teach physicians to communicate in medical Spanish with patients, and continued to be involved with research. After graduation, he obtained his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery degree from Howard University and associated hospitals, including Washington Hospital Center, the National Institute of Health (NIH), Children’s National Medical Center, Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Winchester Medical Center. There, he was exposed to severe maxillofacial trauma, corrective jaw surgeries, and dental surgeries. Finally, committed to providing care for patients with the most need in oral and maxillofacial surgery, he went on to complete a Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial Fellowship at Charleston Area Medical Center Children’s Hospital. Participating with one of the oldest cleft lip and palate teams managed exclusively by oral surgeons in the country.
Dr. Calleja Blanco is an expert in Face and Jaw surgery using patient-specific implants and minimally invasive surgical methods. He practices full scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including Orthognathic Surgery, Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial surgery, Facial Trauma, TMD with TMJ arthroscopic surgery, and oral surgery including dental implants or wisdom teeth surgery under IV sedation with an opioid free approach.
Aside from his educational background, research, and achievements, He is fluent in Spanish and English. He has a great passion for helping patients and continues to attend medical mission trips to South America. With his Patagonian roots, he is committed to providing compassionate healthcare, treating patients as if they were family. Similarly, providing care supported by evidence-based medicine and aiming for the best surgical outcome possible, tailored to every individual patient. Above all, Dr. Calleja Blanco likes spending time with his family while enjoying the multiple attractions the DMV area has to offer.
